The Lord's Way

Loved and Worthy: Seeing Yourself Through God’s Eyes

Pages of Bible form an heart.

“But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” – Romans 5:8

Many of us have struggled with being unloved, through rejection, prejudice, and being pushed aside. We’ve learned to measure our worth by how we’re received or what we’ve accomplished.

In reality, we are loved and worthy.

Not because of anything we’ve done, but because God deems us so.

Worthy to create, love, die for, and save.

Your Worth Isn’t Measured by Your Works

When meeting someone for the first time, the first thing we tend to ask about is their occupation. We often judge people based on how “prestigious” their work or studies are. Even in church, people who “do” more or what is perceived as “better” are often held in high regard.

However, one’s work does not determine one’s worth.

Jesus came to humans very humbly, among the lowest classes. He didn’t have much possession. And to His contemporary, He didn’t do much. He was merely a carpenter’s son (Matthew 13:55).

Yet, none is more worthy than He (Philippians 2:9-11).

What, then, makes one worthy?

God’s love.

Not how much we have or don’t have. Not how much we’ve done or didn’t do. Just His love.

Our worth does not come from us, simply from the One who created us.

The Cross Confirms Your Value

God values us. And He proved it at the cross.

John 3:16 tells us, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”

The God of the universe, Creator of all things, chose to die for us. Not for dogs, whales, tigers, or fish. For us. He didn’t have to. He could’ve let us perish and created new beings.

Yet, He deemed us valuable enough to die for.

He did it before we could even understand its significance (Romans 5:8). We’ve been redeemed by the blood of the Most High (Ephesians 1:7; 1 Peter 1:18-19). This is priceless.

The Bible tells us not to chase earthly, perishable things (Matthew 6:19-2; Colossians 3:2). It also applies to sense of worth tied to societal norms and worldly standards.

Our worth is found in the eternal: the sacrifice of Jesus Christ.

The Creator’s Word Declares You Worthy

God’s Word is powerful. What He says comes to pass. “Let there be light.”, and there was light (Genesis 1:3). Look at what He says about us:

  1. 1 Peter 2:9 – “But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.”
  2. Ephesians 2:10 – “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.”
  3. Genesis 1:27 – “So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.”
  4. Luke 12:6-7 – “Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten by God. Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.”
  5. Psalm 139:13-14 – “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.”

He created Heaven and Earth by His words. This is the One who calls you loved and worthy. He is the One who calls into existence the things that do not exist (Romans 4:17).

If He says you are loved, then you are.

Conclusion

You are worthy. Not because of anything you’ve done, but because of who you are: a child of God.

Your worth doesn’t come from you but from the One who calls you so: God, the creator of Heaven and Earth.

He calls you loved, chosen, forgiven, redeemed, and precious.

When you start doubting your worth, look at the cross.

He loves you.
